Virgil Ray Reynolds Sr

February 24, 1953 — February 16, 2026

Virgil Ray Reynolds Sr., a beloved figure in his community, passed away on February 16, 2026, at the age of 72 in Lufkin, Texas. Born on February 24, 1953, in Cleveland, Texas, Virgil lived a life full of passion for his family and his interests.

Virgil dedicated nearly 40 years of his career to Lufkin Industries in the trailer division, retiring in 2008. His commitment to service extended beyond his employment, as he spent over 30 years umpiring at various levels of baseball and softball, from adult leagues to high school and Little League games. Known for his strong personality and love for the game, he was a cherished fixture at local ballparks, especially at the Tri-Cities and Trinity fields where he fostered a family-like atmosphere among players and parents alike.

He held several fond memories, including riding his motorcycle in inclement weather to visit his son, Ray, and enjoying countless fishing trips with him. Virgil found joy in hunting with his nephews, Wayne and Jimmy, and even the simplest grocery runs often evolved into hour-long adventures filled with laughter and stories. A man of diverse talents, he was an excellent pitcher in slow-pitch softball, famous for throwing a formidable knuckleball. His spirited nature shone brightest during the Christmas season when he dressed up as "Santa Claus" at the Farmer's Market, bringing joy to everyone around him.

Virgil was known affectionately by his nicknames: “Santa Claus” and “Gorilla.” As hard-headed as he could be, those who knew him understood that he loved fiercely and never met a stranger. His personality combined with his passions, like playing dominos, picking the guitar, and throwing washers during family reunions, created countless cherished moments for those who were fortunate to have him in their lives.

Virgil is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Reynolds; his son and daughter-in-law, Virgil Ray Reynolds Jr. and Laura Reynolds; his sons, Wesley Reynolds and Robert Reynolds; his daughter, Robin Reynolds; and his daughter and son-in-law, Angel Reynolds and William Kalka. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Perry and Rita Reynolds, as well as 15 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. His close friend, D.C. of Trinity, also mourns this significant loss.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Riley Medford Reynolds and Virgie Singleton Reynolds; his brothers, John Riley, Bill, Howard, Reagan, Vernon, and Louie Reynolds; his sisters, Pat Wilkerson and Carolyn Joyce Simmons; and his granddaughter, Lori Anderson.
