Vera Fay Elliott

Vera Fay Elliott, lovingly known as Fay, passed away peacefully at her home on August 16, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born on February 1, 1935, to Ola Irene Wright Elliott and Andrew Joel Elliott. Graveside services will be held 6 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Old Union Cemetery in Lufkin, TX.

Fay was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Callie Marie Pugh and Albert Joel Elliott; her husband, Austin Wayne Elliott; and her beloved children, Hubert Elwin Derryberry, Olena Fay Courtney, and Deedra Mayon Matthews.

She leaves behind a cherished family who will forever hold her memory close. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jenny Kelly and husband Jonathan Kelly, Walter Matthews and wife Christy Matthews, and Dianne Matthews. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Lorena Anchondo, Tatum Riddle, Erica Rushing, Kaitlynn Stubblefield, Hope Matthews, Demitrik Rushing, and Braxton Matthews. Her legacy continues through her great-great-grandchildren, Emily Lovell and Lillian Lovell.

Fay was a hardworking and devoted woman whose life was marked by compassion, dedication, and service to others. She faithfully worked for 30 years at Temple Inland, building a career she was proud of before retiring. Retirement did not slow her down, however, as she went on to spend 14 years with Texas Home Health, where her caring nature and desire to help others touched countless lives.

Among her greatest joys were gardening and caring for those around her. Whether tending flowers and plants or offering a helping hand to family, friends, neighbors, or those in her care, Fay found purpose in nurturing others. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.

Though her family mourns her passing, they take comfort in the many memories she leaves behind and the lasting impact she made on the lives of those she loved. Fay's life was a testament to hard work, generosity, and love, and her memory will be treasured always.
