Ricky Joseph Oates was born February 2, 1964 in Beaumont, Texas to Edna White Day and Gethro Mack “Sonny” Oates, and died Sunday, August 11, 2024 in Lufkin.

Survivors include his son, Joseph Oates; mother, Edna Day; brother and sister-in-law, Dwayne and Angie Day; brother, David Day; sister, Darlene Day Hendrix; nieces, Amber Sanders and Kayley Poland; nephews, Colby and Andrew Day; great niece, Emily Chance; and special friend David Vaughn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sonny Oates; stepfather, Robert Day; sister, Ailene Joplin Martinez; paternal grandparents, Louis and Bama Oates; maternal grandparents, Joseph White and Shelma Ann Young Tynes; and special aunt, Billie Sue Temple.
