Melva Joyce Terry

Melva Joyce Terry, a beloved resident of Lufkin, Texas, passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on March 14, 1939, in Lufkin, she dedicated her life to both her family and her career, earning deep respect and affection from all who knew her.

Melva was an esteemed member of her community, drawing on her educational background from Central High School and Angelina College for Nursing to forge a noteworthy career in healthcare. She devoted 26 years to Lufkin State School and then continued her service for 10 years as a registered nurse at Woodland Heights. Her compassion and professionalism left a lasting impact on countless individuals and families.

Her faith was equally important to her as a long-time member of Kelty's First Baptist Church of Lufkin, Texas, where she found support and companionship within her church family.

Melva is survived by son Sean Terry and daughter-in-law Amanda Terry; daughter Norma Shives; sister Tonya Massingill; grandsons David Harmon V, Luke Harmon, Taylor Harmon, Billy Alvis, Clint Thomas, Micah Cooper, Preston Keiffer; granddaughters Amanda Harmon, Candice Farr, Kimberly Terry; and great-grandchildren Sarina Thomas, Violet Cooper, Kinsleigh Terry, Scarlet Terry, Mason Machett, Hunter Machett, Austin Mullan, Liam Harmon, and Cyler Ross. She will also be lovingly remembered by her close friend Andrea Acosta.

She was predeceased by her parents Fred Tackett and Christine Tackett; sisters Patricia Tucker and Christine Pickard; and her son Joe Terry, along with granddaughter Carla Alvis and great-granddaughter Sadie Thomas.

Melva's legacy will forever be treasured by her loved ones, who recall her unwavering love, kind spirit, and strength. The family would like to send a special thank you to Harbor Hospice for being there and providing such compassionate care.
