Maxine Reed Evans Washington Baker was called home by our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 2:32 p.m.
Maxine was 96 years old and she would let you know it right away. She was born to George and Nora (Owens) Reed on January 4, 1930 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, David Lee Washington, and her husband, Wilbur Junior Baker.
She was one of George and Nora's eight children. Maxine has joined her siblings Velma Reed Simmons (Jack), Nadene Yount (James), Rosa Mae Reed Hammer (Jerry), Roy Reed, and George Reed, Jr. all in Heaven, as well as her step-children, Michael and Leslie.
Maxine is survived by her brothers Troy Gene Reed (Cathy), William Herald Reed (Cary Ann), and sister in-law Angela Reed. She leaves behind all six of her children, Troy Reed Evans III, De Ann Drummond (J.C.), Lesa Osborne (Gary), Monique Lee, David J. Washington, Sean Washington (Charlene), and her step-children, Stefani, Melanie (John), Clay, and Debbie (Jerry), and Doris (Charlie).
She is also survived by all seventeen of her grandchildren, Troy, Patrick (Rebecca), Aaron (Veronica), John (Cristina), Jamie (Lee), Jace (Tandi), Maisie (Clay), Abbey (Reed), D.J., Kristynn, Rowdy, Ashley, Kirsten (Rob), Lorryn (Alex), Dylan (Emma), Monique (Seth), Kaisey, and numerous great-grandchildren (last count was 22).
Maxine was a beauty queen and never met a stranger. Just five minutes into a conversation, you would know where she was raised and that she was a Texan by transplant, but an Okie at heart.
She was a pageant girl and model, but she also flew planes, rode elephants, played baseball in the Astrodome, and loved sports cars, powerboats, casinos, plants, flowers, drawing, writing poetry, and could sing and tap dance. But most of all, she loved Jesus and her family dearly. She was always kind to people and had the deepest dimples and the biggest forgiving heart.
She grew up in Tulsa, OK and spent many years living in Corpus Christi, TX. She lived in Tomball, TX with husband (Wilbur) Junior Baker for almost twenty years, where she made life-long friends with her neighbors. She and Junior would often go back to Tulsa and visit family and friends, (and of course, stop at the casino on the way there and back) which made her very happy. After his passing, she moved to the Woodlands, TX where she made many more dear friends and was the highlight of several people's day. She studied Scripture with her friends, volunteered on many committees, and loved to decorate for every holiday. Her close friends say that she was always exquisitely dressed and that her hair and makeup was always perfectly done on any given day. She was always picture perfect and extremely photogenic.
Maxine will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her ashes will be laid to rest next to her parents in Decatur, Arkansas.
