Larry David Redd, affectionately known as "Dave," was born on May 14, 1947, in Pittsburg, Kansas, and peacefully departed this world on September 29, 2025, at his home in Lufkin, Texas—exactly where he wished to be.
A proud veteran, Dave served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, from May 12, 1966, to May 11, 1972. He was stationed in Vietnam during a pivotal time in his life, and this experience shaped much of his perspective and character. Upon returning home, he enrolled in Pittsburg State College - now known as Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS and graduated with his Masters in Accounting. he then laid down the roots of his professional career, working for Millers and Walite in Pittsburg before joining US Gypsum at several locations and years later he worked for Petrolite in Kilgore, TX and later for a short term at A Pineywoods Home Health in Lufkin, TX.
He had a personality that lit up any room. Dave always loved to make jokes, and laughter came easily to him. He had a unique talent for finding humor in the everyday moments of life, bringing smiles to the faces of both family and friends. His warm spirit and infectious laughter will be sorely missed.
Dave was a man of many passions. His heart belonged to his wife, Rita Redd, and their beloved dog, Max, who were his world. Together, they formed a beautiful bond that flourished since their marriage on May 13, 2006—a day that held a special place in his heart as one of his proudest accomplishments. Beyond his family, Dave was an avid motorcycle rider and a devoted fan of NASCAR and football, particularly cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs. His curiosity about computers kept him engaged and connected in an ever-evolving digital world.
Over the years, Dave called various places home, including Corsicana, Texas, Duluth, Minnesota, and Longview, Texas, before finally settling in the welcoming embrace of Lufkin in 2000. Each place brought its own set of memories and experiences, enriching his life in unique ways.
Dave's legacy continues through those who loved him dearly. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Redd; his cherished dog, Max; his brother, Don Redd and wife Jackie, sister, Connie Anderson and husband Tim, both of Kansas; sisters-in-law Mary and Debbie; as well as a touching circle of nieces and nephews, including Kimberly Espe (Aaron), Kelsey Butcher (Austin), Shauna Vance, Christine Mitchell (Josh), Jason Redd (Amy), Eli Anderson (Jessica), and Ian Anderson. His great-nieces and great-nephews, Anna Espe, Addison Redd, Luke Espe, Sam Espe, Kepple Butcher, and Colton Vance, will carry forward his memory with love and affection.
Dave will be reunited in spirit with those who predeceased him, including his parents, Wanda (Lea) Redd and Elmer Redd; his daughter, Laura Nickleson; his son, David Redd; and his brothers, Billy, Ralph, and Danny Redd. Their love and guidance shaped the man he became, and he will hold a special place in their hearts eternally.

His spirit, laughter, and unwavering love will forever remain etched in our memories, guiding us as we carry his legacy forward. At his request there will be not service but a celebration of life later on.
