Obituary

Johnny's passion for life was evident in the countless ways he spent his time.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juan Antonio Cruz Jr. “Johnny” who departed this life on July 16, 2026, at the age of 50. Born on November 28, 1975, Johnny was a cherished son, devoted brother, loving father, and a true friend to all who had the good fortune of knowing him.

Johnny was the beloved son of Margarita Cruz and the late Juan Antonio Cruz Sr. He is survived by his loving family: his mother, Margarita Cruz, his son, Juan Antonio Cruz III, and his step-sons, Kaleb and Kris Torres. His sisters, Yesenia Espinoza and brother-in-law Raymundo Espinoza, Viviana, Elizabeth, and Maria Cruz and his brother, Arturo  and sister-in-law Angel Cruz,. Johnny also leaves numerous nieces Rubi, Susie, Skylar, and Jacquilynn as well as his nephews Arturo Jr., Jayden, Dominic, Julian ,  A.J.  and Ricky (who is also his godson). 

Johnny graduated in 1995 from Lufkin High School. Johnny also graduated from Angelina College with a Business degree. 

Johnny's passion for life was evident in the countless ways he spent his time. Fishing and hunting were among his favorite hobbies,  offering him peace and adventure. He took great joy in drawing, building, and especially in barbecuing—a culinary enthusiast who brought friends and family together around delicious meals and warm laughter. The holidays were a special time for Johnny, when he would transform his surroundings with festive decorations, filling his home and the hearts of those around him with excitement and joy.

Known affectionately as a jokester and prankster, Johnny had a special gift for making people laugh. His humor was infectious, his spirit irrepressible, and his sense of mischief legendary among his friends and loved ones. Always happy, always full of life, Johnny could lighten any moment and made even ordinary days memorable. His warmth, wit, and zest for living touched everyone he met, leaving behind memories that will be treasured forever.

Though his absence leaves a profound void in our hearts, Johnny’s life with forever be remembered. The joy and laughter he brought to others, the happiness he sparked, and the bonds of love he formed with many people will always be cherished. 

As we honor the memory of Juan Antonio Cruz Jr. “Johnny” we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who were blessed to share in his remarkable journey. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love that he gave so freely in life.
