Joyce Lynn Burnett (79), born October 9, 1946, in Lufkin, Texas, passed away peacefully at her residence in Lufkin on August 11, 2026. Her departure marks the end of a life that touched many hearts, and her legacy will be warmly cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.

Joyce’s story began in the vibrant community of Lufkin, where she was raised by her late parents, Claude and Minnie Register. The rhythms and spirit of her hometown shaped her earliest years, and it was here that she attended Lufkin High School—a proud member of the graduating class whose friendships and memories continued with her throughout her life.

As a young woman, Joyce devoted herself to her husband, Jimmie Burnett, embracing motherhood with a gentle yet determined love. She was a steady and nurturing presence to her sons Keith Alan Burnett, Kevin Burnett, and J.C. Burnett, and later cherished the addition of her daughters-in-law, Jene Burnett and Stephanie Burnett, to her family. Each of them carries forward her wise counsel and endless encouragement.

Joyce was no stranger to the simple pleasures of life, finding much joy in laughter, storytelling, and conversation. She loved nothing more than gathering with loved ones, always quick with a listening ear and a kind word. Her warmth and generosity were known to all—whether she was championing a spirited game of 42, sipping her beloved Diet Coke, or sharing lively stories that brought smiles to those around her.

Her career was marked by dedication, and she retired from Dollar General, leaving behind a reputation for hard work and kindness that was admired by colleagues and customers alike. Joyce’s heart was happiest in the presence of her 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She delighted in taking to the grands to the movies and playing games with the great-grandchildren.

Joyce’s circle of love extended beyond her immediate family. She is survived by her brother Joe Lee Register and his wife Barbara, her sister Charlotte Arnold and her husband Johnny, each sharing in the tapestry of memories and support that Joyce so lovingly wove throughout her life.

She now rejoins in peace her beloved husband, Jimmie Ralph Burnett, with whom she shared a life of devotion, partnership, and enduring love. Also preceding her in death are her sisters, Claudia Sue Luce and Rita Wheeler; and her brothers, Billy Charles Register and Jerry Bob Register. Each held a unique place in Joyce’s heart, and their memories shaped the loving, resilient woman she became.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones at 10:00am Saturday, August 22, 2026, prior to the service at Trinity Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas led by Bro. Steve Cowart at 11:00am.  

Those who knew Joyce will forever recall her kind spirit and her deep love for family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and cherished stories—a testament to a life well and truly lived.
