John Wesley Gibson, age 68, a loving husband and father, passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughters’ sides in Wells, TX, on Friday June 27, 2025. John was born in Borger, TX, on January 18, 1957, to Frank and Lucille Gibson.

He is preceded in death by his father Frank Gibson, and mother Lucille Gibson. Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bobby and Merle Grove.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Kelly Gibson, with whom he shared a lifelong bond of love, friendship, and unwavering devotion. Together, they built a strong and loving family that carries on his legacy. John is lovingly remembered by his daughter Nicole and husband Hans Novak, along with their children Shane and Levi Novak. He is also survived by his daughter Brittany and fiancé Wade Lee, and their daughter Aubrey. He is also survived by his brothers David Gibson and wife Carla, Ronnie Gibson and wife Laura, and sister Cyndee Metcalf and husband James.

In 1979, John made the move to Houston, TX to begin his career with Phillips 66. Over the course of his 40-year career at Phillips he began as an electrician, spent time on the volunteer fire brigade, and worked as a maintenance supervisor in Pasadena, Tx. In 2004, he then began working overseas in Doha, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, helping to guide and construct some high-tech spectacular oil and gas refineries worldwide, with Chevron-Phillips. In 2017, John and Kelly moved back to the United States, where John enjoyed his retirement and settled down in LaRue, Texas. John enjoyed spending his free time with his family, playing golf, hunting, the Houston Astros and woodworking.

John will be remembered for his honesty, generosity, kindness, and sarcastic sense of humor. His wisdom and compassion were gifts to all who knew him.

A celebration of John’s life will be held in September in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
