Jimmy Wayne Ragsdale, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Woden, Texas, on February 27, 2026. Born on January 16, 1954, in Nacogdoches, Texas, Jimmy was a man who touched the lives of many through his service, humor, and love for his family.
Jimmy dedicated 33 years of his life to Moore Business Forms as the Supervisor of the Press Department, showcasing not just his work ethic but also his ability to foster camaraderie among colleagues. He later devoted 14 years of his heart and soul as an EMT/Dispatcher at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, where he exemplified compassion and dedication in the face of challenges. His commitment to serving his community extended beyond his career; he volunteered with the Woden Volunteer Fire Department, where he proudly served as Assistant Fire Chief and played a crucial role in building Loco Valley VFD, eventually rising to the position of Fire Chief.
Education was important to Jimmy, who attended Woden High School, but his greatest lessons came from life itself. He made friends easily, possessing a contagious sense of humor that lit up any room. Most importantly, he loved his family above all else. Deeply committed to familial bonds, he cherished moments spent reading books to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories that they will carry with them forever. His passion for outdoor activities was evident as he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and horseback riding with LaMerle Yates Brown and husband Wayne in Douglass. A unique aspect of Jimmy's personality was his fascination with Bigfoot, a passion that further highlighted his adventurous spirit and penchant for storytelling.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Knox Ragsdale; son, Jimmy Ragsdale Jr. and his wife, Jennifer Ragsdale; daughter, Misty Ragsdale Prater and her husband, Ronnie Prater; and grandchildren Dustin Prater and his wife Mary, Trace Prater and his wife Kayliegh, Karlee King and her husband Blayton, and Austin Ragsdale. He was proud of his great-grandchildren, Dustin Prater Jr., Alice Prater, Elayna King, Emily Prater, and Hazel Prater. His loving family also includes his brother, Michael Ragsdale and his wife Sherry; brother-in-law, Mike Berryhill; sister-in-law, Elaine Ragsdale; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who all held him dear.
He was preceded in death by his father, Newt Ragsdale; mother, Alice Rogers Ragsdale; and sister, Deborah Berryhill.
A memorial service celebrating Jimmy's life will take place on March 4, 2026 at Nacogoches Memorial Chapel at 10:00 A.M
Jimmy Wayne Ragsdale's light will continue to shine through the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He battled cancer for five years with dignity, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support for those around him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
