Obituary

Jeffrey Dewayne West, a steadfast and dedicated man whose hands crafted more than just wood, but the very fabric of a hardworking life, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 3, 2026. Born on March 28, 1962, in Wichita, Kansas, Jeffrey journeyed through life’s landscapes with a humble spirit that anchored him firmly — rooted ultimately in the small-town of Dam B, Texas.

Jeffrey, affectionately known to family and friends as "Jeff," was a proud graduate of Buna High School, where the seeds of his enduring work ethic were planted. He later made Dam B his home, a place where he dedicated over forty years to carpentry—a trade where his toil was matched only by his craft. Within the grain and timbers he shaped, Jeff found his truth: the satisfaction of a day’s honest labor and, when the work was done, the simple comfort of unwinding with a beer in hand, savoring the quiet moments of life’s daily rhythms.

A man of deep and abiding devotion, Jeff shared 41 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lahoma (Sissye) West, who stood by his side through every challenge and triumph. Together, they raised two sons: Joseph West of Beaumont, Texas, and Dustin West of Dam B, Texas. Jeff’s legacy is carried on not only through them, but also in the bright eyes of his grandson, Wyatt Linscomb (West), a living testament to the love and strength Jeff imparted across generations.

Jeffrey’s family circle extended warmly through his sisters: Eva Page and her husband George of Buna, Texas, and Laverna Woods and her husband David, also of Buna; and his brothers: Steve West and wife Tina of Temple, Texas; Bryan Cusick and wife Chrissy of Buna, Texas; and Ernest (Jr.) Walker of Shepherd, Texas. Each bears marks of his influence and the quiet support he offered throughout their lives. Beyond immediate kin, Jeff was surrounded by a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends—an abundant network whose lives he touched with kindness, humor, and unwavering support when he could.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Walker; stepfather, Ernest Walker Sr.; and father, Ron West—souls who preceded him along life’s path and whom he now joins on the other side.

The community that embraced Jeff now gathers to honor and remember his legacy. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Lufkin Memorial Chapel, located at 400 South First Street, Lufkin, Texas. Here, those who loved him will come together, in remembrance and farewell, to celebrate a life marked by quiet perseverance, heartfelt love, and the indelible imprint of a carpenter who built more than wood—he built relationships, memories, and an enduring story of a man who mattered.

Jeffrey Dewayne West’s story is one dedicated to family, to work, and to the simple joys that framed his days. His memory will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew him, a gentle reminder of the goodness found in a life well-lived and a work well done.
