Elijah Lei Verrett, born on December 24, 2001, at 7 a.m. in San Antonio, Texas, departed this life on March 10, 2026, in Lufkin, Texas. His journey was a testament to a spirit filled with hope, determination, and an unwavering commitment to love and service.
From his earliest days, Elijah exhibited a profound curiosity and fascination with the world around him—whether marveling at the tires of cars as a toddler or embracing his love for music, poetry, and photography. This bright child grew into a man of depth and diversity, who enjoyed swimming, exploring parks and nature, and traveling with his beloved family and close friends, including Kevin, Tommy, and others who were like brothers to him. He carried his compassion openly, always ready to support those in need, wearing his heart on his sleeve—a true friend and confidant.
Elijah’s passions were numerous and deeply felt. Achieving his CDL to drive trucks was a cherished accomplishment and brought him great joy. He was a meticulous perfectionist, driven by a heartfelt desire to make the world a better and safer place for the youth of our nation—his generation. He nurtured a dream of serving in the Marines Special Ops, a reflection of his American spirit and reverence for God, his unwavering faith in Christ Jesus Yeshua being the anchor that carried him through life’s challenges.
A remarkable man who loved Texas and the beauty of Colorado, Elijah was also an avid enthusiast of firearms—taking pride in his gun collection, skillfully disassembling and reassembling them, and cherishing moments spent at the shooting range with his close brothers. Toward the end of his life, the love he found in a special woman brought him joy, purpose, and meaning beyond anything else; all he ever wanted was a family of his own and children to love. His devotion was steadfast. Even when love and appreciation were not always reciprocated, he gave his very blood, sweat, and tears freely and would never give up on anyone he held dear.
Elijah envisioned a bright future—not only for himself but for those he loved and cared about deeply. He dreamed of success in ventures like Bitcoin with plans to bless the lives of his friend Kevin, Kavontre, Deion, and his own family: his mother Maria Escudero, father Terrell Verrett Jr., older sister Madeline Cede Montemayor, little brother Terrell Verrett III, niece Sarina Lee Ousley, and his grandfather Terrell Verrett, to whom he was deeply devoted. The wider Verrett family, along with Zena and German Matthews and many aunts and uncles from both sides, were also held close in his heart.
Elijah was preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandmother, Mercedes J. Escudero, who went to be with the Lord in 1997.
A visitation will be held on March 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Lufkin Memorial Chapel, located at 400 S First St, Lufkin, Texas. Following this, a memorial service will be conducted on the same day from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the same chapel, allowing all who loved him to gather in remembrance and honor his remarkable life.
Elijah’s life was a living illustration of the words from I Corinthians 13:4-8: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud... It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." His love, his hope, and his faith endure beyond this life, inspiring all who knew him.
Elijah Lei Verrett was a light, a protector, a dreamer, a brother, a son, and a friend. His memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched with his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering spirit. Though he has passed from this earthly world, his legacy remains—a testament to a life lived with love, courage, and an unshakable belief that the future holds better days for all. May he rest in peace, embraced by the eternal love he so deeply believed in and longed for.
