Dexter Dennis Purvis, a beloved friend, son, father, grandfather, and brother, departed this life on September 26, 2026.

Dexter was born on September 13, 1957, to Theo Dennis Purvis and Thelma Purvis in Lufkin, Texas. He was introduced to Christ at an early age. As a young boy, he shared a uniquely close and special bond with his grandmother, Velma White, who helped shape the man he became.

He attended Ross Shaw Sterling High School in Houston, Texas. It was there that he met and married Shelia Easter. To this union, a daughter was born. They named her Tamika Purvis. Dexter was proud of his daughter and they shared a unique bond. He often laughed and said to others, “That Mika is tough, she’s just like me. That’s my twin. “

Though life later took Dexter and Shelia on separate paths, Dexter was later blessed with a son, Dexter Dennis Purvis Jr., who carries on his name.

Dexter was a hardworking man who found his calling as a truck driver and in landscaping and yard work. He truly loved the artistry and beauty of his work, taking great pride in transforming the spaces around him. Outside of work, Dexter had a passion for life's finer details—he loved to dress up, look sharp, and spray every cologne he’d pass. He wanted to make sure he smelled his absolute best.

He was preceded in death by his father, Theo Purvis; his brother, Theo Purvis Jr.; his ex-wife, Shelia Purvis; and his beloved grandparents, Otto and Velma White, and Colbert and Velma Purvis.

Dexter leaves behind a rich legacy of love and beautiful memories. His life will be forever cherished by his devoted mother, Thelma White; his daughter, Tamika Purvis Wade (John); his son, Dexter Purvis Jr.; and his two treasured grandsons, Jontré and Donavan Wade,also his only granddaughter,Jordon Fleming. He is also survived by his brother, Willie Purvis; his sister, Shemetria White; his nephew, T.J. Martin; his special niece, Timia Martin; a host of loving cousins, friends, family and his special dear friend, Sandra King.
