In cherished memory, we honor the life of Anita Dickerson, who gracefully departed this world on June 14, 2026, in Jasper, Texas, at the age of 77. Born in Newton, Texas, on August 21, 1948, Anita embodied wisdom and unconditional love from a young age. Her charm and wit made her a favorite among peers and teachers alike, and her prowess on the basketball court was matched by her academic success as Salutatorian and Miss NHS of her graduating class in 1966.

Anita's life was a tapestry of faith, family, and service. As a devoted housewife, she found joy in cooking, cleaning, and extending her boundless compassion to those around her, raising many children that were not her own.  Her love for children knew no bounds, opening her home to many beyond her own. With her beloved husband Joe, she drove the church van for years, ensuring every child had a way to attend services.

She leaves behind her husband of 43 years, Joe Dickerson of Holly Springs; daughter Melissa Love and husband David of Kirbyville; son David Pace of Jasper; sisters Glenda Dunn and husband Ben of DeRidder, LA, and Dee Whitmore of Stratford, OK; brother Charles Simmons of Newton; grandchildren Lyndsie Warner, Hannah Vaught, Jared Walker, Austin Walker, Jaydon Pace, Addie Pace; and four great-grandchildren, Reese, Ema, Kane, and Stetson.

Anita rejoins in eternal peace her parents Annie Lee and Russell Simmons, siblings RA, Garland, David, Carlton Simmons, and Patricia Roney, and granddaughter Alexandria Elaine Pace.

A memorial gathering is scheduled for July 25th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Baptist Church of Jasper. Friends and family are invited to attend the service or send flowers, celebrating the vibrant legacy of Anita Dickerson.
