Vickie Lynn Jeffries, a beloved mother, sister, and dedicated nurse, passed away peacefully of natural
causes on June 14, 2023 in Lufkin, Texas. Born on December 18, 1950, in Magnolia, Arkansas, Vickie was
known for her generous spirit, creative mind, and spirited personality.
Vickie was a proud graduate of the Deaconess School of Nursing in 1972 and later earned her Bachelor
of Science from the University of Southern Indiana, both in Evansville, Indiana. Her commitment to her
education was a testament to her dedication and passion for nursing, a career that spanned 50 years
and took her to several states. Vickie's professionalism and dedication to her vocation were evident in
her work, as she held Director or Assistant Director positions for the latter half of her career. She was a
firm believer in the value and fulfillment derived from serving others, a principle she lived by throughout
her life.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Vickie was an active member of her community. As a
member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, she chaired several local fundraisers for St. Jude Children's Hospital,
demonstrating her commitment to philanthropy and her ability to bring people together for a common
cause.
Vickie was also known for her love of sports, particularly softball, bowling, fishing, and bicycling. She was
an avid gardener and history buff, always eager to learn something new and share her knowledge with
others. Her passion for exploration and travel was infectious, inspiring those around her to seek out new
experiences and broaden their horizons.
Vickie is survived by her children, Mathew Jeffries of Indiana and Elizabeth Jeffries Barnes of Wisconsin,
and her brother, Richard Moore of Texas. Her family will remember her as a loving mother and sister,
whose generosity and creativity left a lasting impact on their lives.
Vickie's life was a testament to her spirit and dedication to serving others. Her legacy will live on in the
countless lives she touched, both through her nursing career and her community involvement. Her love
for life, learning, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. Vickie will be deeply missed, but
her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout
her remarkable life.
