Ronald Maney Gieger

June 4, 1935 — September 22, 2023

Ronald (Ron) Gieger died peacefully in his sleep on 9/22/23 at his home in Diboll, TX, with his loved ones

by his side.

Ron was born in Baytown (Goose Creek), TX in the summer of 1935. He spent his young life growing up

among the backwaters of the Houston ship channel where he loved to camp and explore with his best

friends Sam and Joe. Ron attended Ashbel Smith Elementary and Robert E Lee High School, playing on

the tennis team as a proud Gander.

Ron always loved his country and was eager to serve. He enlisted in the US Navy and while based out of

San Diego, he spent 4 years onboard ships exploring the world.

Upon leaving the Navy, Ron returned home and promptly looked up the beautiful girl he’d met two

years earlier, Jenny Carlton. They fell in love and married on July 4, 1959. Together Ron and Jenny

moved to Austin where he attended The University of Texas and received his Bachelor of Science and

Master’s degree in Geology. Ron spent his career as a Certified Petroleum Geologist and truly felt he

had the most fascinating job imaginable. He continued to pursue oil and gas exploration until the end.

More than anything, Ron loved his Lord Jesus and wanted to serve Him. He grew up in the Baptist

church where he became an ordained deacon and led men’s Sunday School for many years. After

moving to Diboll, Ron and Jenny joined First Methodist church and while he couldn’t go in person, he

enjoyed watching church on his computer and frequent visits with his pastor.

Ron was an avid UT Longhorn and Dallas Cowboy fan and faithfully supported them through the good

years and the not so good years.

Ron lived with MS for over 40 years but never saw it as a burden. Ron believed that the Lord wanted

him to be an example to others that life could be lived to the fullest. Second only to his Lord, Ron loved

his girls, Jenny, and their daughter Dee, and did everything he could to be the best husband and father

possible. He truly exemplified what a good and Godly man should be.

Ron is survived by his best friend and wife of 64 years, Jenny Carlton Gieger; daughter Dee Gieger and

her partner Dan O’Connor and by his faithful and beloved Great Pyrenees Sebastian. He was preceded

in death by his parents John Maney Gieger and Minnie Roberta Gieger, and by his brother Kenneth

Wayne Gieger.

Jenny and Dee would like to give a special thanks to Lindsay and Jennifer from Hospice Plus for their

excellent care of Ron.
