We are sad to announce the passing of Peggy Culliton Gorham of Nacogdoches. Peggy died at age 73 on March 16, 2023. She passed away surrounded by her loved ones after a battle with esophageal cancer. A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held in June at her new home in Nacogdoches.
Peggy was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana where she lived with her mother, Iva Culliton, her father, Al Culliton, and her 2 younger brothers, Timmy and Jerry Culliton. As a child, she was an avid reader, artist, and an active participant in Girl Scouts where she advanced through all ranks and worked as a summer camp counselor for several years. Peggy attended Stephen F. Austin State University, where she earned a master’s degree in education and met her husband and best friend of 49 years, John Gorham. Peggy went on to teach advanced math classes at several high schools for 40 years. Peggy’s greatest devotion was being a mother to her 2 daughters, Rachel Gorham Brown and Sarah Gorham Silverman. She was active in all of her children’s activities, leading young brownie troops and supporting and volunteering at countless gymnastics meets and swim meets for nearly 2 decades. Peggy lived to spend time with her 4 grandchildren, Sydney Brown, Alex Brown, Memphis Silverman, and Thea Silverman. She treasured great times with her family and friends and never missed a chance to visit the beach.
Peggy was an artist with a talent for oil painting, drawing, and music, she was a political activist, she was a boston terrier lover, she was a friend, and she was a loving mother and spouse who is dearly missed.
