Corrigan, Texas
Marganne Winter Oxley, 63, passed away on February 20, 2023, surrounded by family. She struggled with her health for many years. Finally succumbing to her conditions and complications, she passed peacefully.
She was born on November 4, 1959, in Denville, New Jersey, to John William Winter and Margery Ann Van Keuren Winter.
After moving to Houston, Texas, Marganne’s childhood was filled with weekends at Bolivar Peninsula and riding horses in the Piney Woods of East Texas at Horseshoe Hill. She also had the excitement of living in Nassau Bay during the race to put a man on the moon.
She attended Emma Willard high school in Troy, New York, before transferring to The Thacher School (CdeP ‘78) in Ojai, California. Proud to graduate as part of the first co-ed class in a traditionally all-boys school. There she would meet her future husband, David. Marganne graduated from Southern Methodist University (Class of ‘82) in Dallas, Texas. Her summers were spent working on a dude ranch in Jackson Hole Wyoming.
Marganne married David Oxley on the Rocking H Ranch in Jackson Hole Wyoming (1983). They first lived on the family ranch in Scott Valley California where their son Will was born. Then they moved to Wichita, Kansas, in 1988 where their daughter Sondra was born. In 1992, they put down roots in Klamath Falls, Oregon, on their 350-acre ranch and raised their family there for 25 years. They retired to the Piney Woods of East Texas in 2017.
Marganne ran a small parts manufacturing company (Shasta Industries) and was a La Leche League Leader in addition to the demands of being a ranch wife. Always ready to plan a party or family gathering, Marganne had a gift for organizing and bringing people together.
In her retirement, Marganne relished building her dream log house in a meadow deep in the Piney Woods. She took great pride in creating her perfect home at Whispering Pines. She enjoyed many visits from family and friends, along with watching her granddaughters play.
She will be remembered for her unconditional love of family, her generosity, and her kindness to everyone who crossed her path. Marganne enjoyed nothing more than spending time with those she loved, and those people will miss her deeply.
Preceded in death by her grandparents; Marganne is survived by parents John and Margery Winter; loving husband, David Oxley; son, Will Oxley (Andrea) and daughter, Sondra Haro (Denys); granddaughters, Amelia Haro, Lydia Haro; brother, J.
