Numbers 6:24 The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. At the end of 1979, Julie thought that she had found her purpose in life when she became a mother for the first time after having Amanda. She thought that again in 1983 with the birth of her son Matthew. But she was wrong. It wasn't until 2001, when she became "Nana" to her first grandchild, that her true purpose was realized. Her life, for the next 20 years, revolved around her grand-babies. Just ask them, or any of the other children who also proudly used that name to address her. Julie never met a stranger, always had time for everyone, and never failed to hug the neck of a child and make them feel special. She was selfless and kind and made wherever she was at feel like home. She loved watching the sun rise above the ocean, hunting for seashells by day, and the warmth of a fire in the sand at night. She loved camping, serving many years as a Cub Scout master and Girl Scout troop leader for both of her children. She liked to play word scrambles, Boggle, dominoes or cards, and spending time with her loved ones, especially her grandkids. Julie lived her life in dedication to the Lord. She never failed to pray daily for the ones she loved. And, in the face of multiple tragedies, her faith in the Lord never faltered. While she is dearly missed by many, she would want everyone to know that she was more than prepared to meet the Lord. She was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist church and loved every member of her church family immensely. She was a proud and loyal member of the Lufkin chapter 382 Order of the Eastern Star and loved her brothers and sisters there, as well. She passed away in the presence of her son and favorite daughter-in-law in the early hours of Thanksgiving day. And yet there was still reason to be thankful, not only for the opportunity to know such a beautiful soul as she, but to be with her as she shuffled free from this mortal coil. In lieu of flowers, please honor Julie’s memory by donating to your local church, spending time creating memories with your loved ones, or supporting a Masonic charity or fundraiser. There will be a scholarship created in her name through her Eastern Star chapter that can also be contributed to. Please pray for Makenzie, Ava and Cain, Emorie, Takodo, Tesla, Eian and Elijah, Ethan, Adison, Eliora, Ezra, Anya and Asher, that they may find comfort through their grief, and for all of Julie’s family and friends as they prepare to navigate life without her love and guidance. Remember her as she would prefer, with joy and a smile, for there is no true death in the Lord, but only the promise of peace eternal and love everlasting in the arms of our Savior. Honorary pallbearers: Ron Steveson, Chris Allen, Shain Steveson, Nick Aldredge (who made her favorite baklava) Shawn Steveson, and Shelton Steveson.
