We gather today in remembrance of a soul who graced this earth with love and joy, Gloria J Stevens, a beacon of warmth and devotion in the lives of all who knew her. Born on the 21st of September in the year of our Lord 1948 in Houston, Texas, Gloria embarked on her final journey to the Lord's embrace on the 4th of August 2024, in the peaceful surroundings of Cleveland, Texas.
Gloria, a woman of faith and the heart of her family, was called to Heaven after a life well-lived and filled with the echoes of laughter, the strength of love, and the steadfastness of her spirit. She was the beloved matriarch who, alongside her late husband, Arnold Stevens Sr., nurtured a family that stood as a testament to their union. Her children, Arnold Stevens Jr. and his wife Hope, Mitchell Stevens and his wife Denise, Margaret Akins and her husband Darrel, Brenda Kay Stevens, and Pam Jones, are the living legacies of her boundless love. The joy of her life was further multiplied by the blessings of many grandchildren and a few precious great-grandchildren, all of whom were the apple of her eye, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Gloria's home was a sanctuary of warmth and affection, a testament to her life's work of providing a loving environment for Arnold and their children. Her hands, though often busy with the tasks of care and comfort, were never too full to embrace a friend or offer a helping hand. She was a woman whose heart knew no bounds and whose doors were always open to those in need.
Her passions were simple yet profound. Gloria found solace in the words of the Holy Scripture, often reading her Bible with a devotion that was as unwavering as it was inspiring. In moments of quietude, she enjoyed the challenge of a good game of solitaire on her phone, her fingers deftly maneuvering with a strategist's mind. And, oh, how she relished a good hamburger, savoring each bite with the zest for life that characterized her every action.
Loving, passionate, and spirited—these words are but a faint echo of the vibrant soul that was Gloria. She moved through this world with a grace that was as effortless as it was impactful, leaving a mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, let us hold close the wisdom of the scriptures she so dearly loved. It is written, "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:13). Gloria's life was the very embodiment of these eternal virtues, with love being the cornerstone of her existence.
In her passing, we are reminded of the transient nature of our earthly journey and the promise of eternal life that awaits us all. Gloria J Stevens lived a life that exemplified the best of us, and though she has departed from our midst, her spirit will forever dwell in the gardens of our memories, blooming with the flowers of love she planted in each of our hearts.
Let us carry forward the torch of her legacy, living each day with the love and passion that Gloria demonstrated so effortlessly. May her soul rest in the everlasting peace of our Lord and Savior, and may we find comfort in the knowledge that she watches over us from her heavenly abode, smiling down with the same love that she so generously bestowed upon us all.
Amen
