David Lester Smith

David Lester Smith, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Friday, September 18, 2020. A private celebration of life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his honor to Hospice of East Texas. David was born November 2, 1941 in Mobile, Alabama to Albert and Mary Ellen Smith. He was a gentle and kind soul. His greatest joys in life were his grands and great grands. He loved gardening and always had something in bloom. He never met a stranger and always had a smile. David was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to all. David is survived by his wife, Shila Jane of 40 years; daughter Andrea (Gregory) Tate; two sons Yoggi Villegas and Thomas Matthew Smith; 4 grandchildren Travis, Connor, Jackson and Brittney; 3 great grandchildren Kairi, Bailie and Chole; and his three brothers Lloyd (Karen) Smith, Peter (Sarah) Smith and Clyde (Loretta) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Jenny Rebecca Becker and his brother Thomas Arthur Smith. A special thank you to Hospice of East Texas for their loving care and support.
