Billy D. Finke, known to most as Bill, passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 9, 2023, in
Etoile, Texas. Born on July 10, 1945, in Houston, Texas, Bill was a man of great character, whose life was
filled with love for his family, friends, and many interests.
Bill lived a life that was rich in experiences and relationships. His daughters, Peggy and Mary, were the
joy of his life. His love for them was evident in every conversation, every shared meal, and every family
gathering. Bill's love for his family was as expansive as the Texas sky, and he was always there to lend a
hand, share a laugh, or offer words of wisdom.
One of Bill's greatest passions was horses. Whether he was riding, grooming, or simply watching them in
the field, he found great peace and satisfaction in their company. His love for these majestic creatures
was infectious, and he often shared stories of his equine adventures.
Bill was also a masterful cook. He enjoyed smoking all kinds of meat and experimenting with different
recipes and flavors. His culinary creations were a highlight at family gatherings and neighborhood
barbecues. His love for cooking extended to the water as well, where he enjoyed boating on the lake
and, most especially, fishing. Hours spent on the lake, with a fishing rod in hand, were some of his most
cherished moments.
As the saying goes, "There is no love sincerer than the love of food," a quote by George Bernard Shaw,
and Bill embodied this sentiment wholeheartedly. His love for cooking and sharing meals brought
people together, and these shared experiences created memories that will continue to be cherished by
those who knew him.
Bill's love for life was infectious, and his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those he left
behind. He was a man who made the most of every moment, who found joy in the simple things, and
who loved deeply and unconditionally. His laughter, his stories, his love for his family, his passion for
horses, cooking, and fishing - these are the things that defined him and these are the things that will be
remembered.
Billy D. Finke was a man of great character, and he will be deeply missed. His spirit, his love, and his zest
for life will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we
remember Bill, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the
simple pleasures of life.
